New Supreme Court Nominee

Here's an overview of John G. Roberts, Jr on Daily Kos

My first thought is, why are we not getting a woman?

Anyway, basically, he is not friendly to Civil Rights.
He is not friendly to the environment.
He is a member of the radical Right-Wing Federalist Society
He is not a friend of the environment
He is not a friend of the Americans with Disabilities Act
He is not pro-choice

In regard to business v people, he'll take the side of business

He is bad news

"He's not pro-choice."

You say that like it's a bad thing. Oh, that's right. You must reject the Catholic Church teaching that abortion is always evil, and therefore never a valid "choice."

Sounds like Mr. Roberts may very well make a fine SC justice. Furthermore, with the unanimous voice vote in the Senate to confirm him to the DC Court, it will be mighty hard for Democrats to reject him now without looking hypocritical. Although, what's new.

Why not a woman? To avoid the appearance of O'Connor's seat to be one of the two women's seats that always go to a woman. Bush will likely have to make a second appointment before the end of his term--we haven't heard the last of Joy Clement.

Ambrose,

I think you mean Edith Clement. She might be good. Another is Edith Jones. I also think either of the two newest judges would be good, Janice Rogers Brown or Pricilla Owens.

Ambrose,

Thanks for the clarification. Now, if the media call her what she prefers to go by, we'd all know that. I have only heard her referred to by the name 'Edith.'

I don't know...the fact that Ann coulter is angry about this nomination is almost a ringing endorsement for me :-)

No Souter, eh? I sure hope he's not! But, you sound as if you were hoping for another pro-abort on the court. Then again, I guess I already addressed that in my first comment, which you chose not to reply to.
