The Horror of Katrina

First off, who came up that name. It evokes the sense that we've been hit by a soviet missile.

My primary reaction for days has been extreme anger and frustration. George Bush is _______ (insert word here: if you have nothing nasty to say then say nothing). I hope he had nice vacation and got all rested up for his next brush-clearing vacation. The man is an embarassment to civilization as are all the people who put such an incompetent man in charge. Simply put, George Bush is the worst U.S. President in history.

The whole thing is incomprehensible. There simply is no excuse for what all has happened. We went to New Orleans for our honeymoon and on the swamp tour and in general, we heard a lot about how NO was below sea level and was a disaster waiting to happen. That no one was prepared for this is nuts. I don't understand why the Gov of LA or the Mayor didn't pick up the phone on Friday and Saturday and make a public plea to TX to provide buses to assist with the evacuation or for TX to send police and assistance. People were stuck in NO, not because people didn't want to leave, but because they did not have the means to leave.

In the past few days, I've watched with my jaw dropped at the news from NO. It is sickening. Also, we're all waiting to hear of the extent of devastation in coastal Mississippi and Alabama. I'm sure who communities were wiped out there. So much for the great leader, George Bush, this is clear proof that his policies have done nothing to help communities prepare and deal with tragic events of a significant magnitude.

I feel guilty doing anything else, like watch TV, etc, but I can't watch the news all day. It is to depressing and I feel helpless. I suppose we can keep praying and sending money.

This is about the only rational thing in your post. It is the only thing that comes close to placing the blame mainly where it belongs, on the Democratic governor of LA, and the Democratic mayor of NO. Total incompetence from these two. For example, Mayor Nagin needs to explain why he didn't use THIS resource to help get people to safety:

Why weren't these school buses, HUNDREDS OF THEM, not put to use??? Can't blame President Bush for THAT decision! In fact, why didn't Mayor Nagin or Gov. Blanco act on the information that Katrina was headed straight for NO, and order a mandatory evacuation several days in advance. Know who urged them to do so? President Bush:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1475914/posts

"Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco said that it was President Bush that had called and urged the state to order the evacuation."

It's a complete joke that you and other liberals are trying to lay the blame all on President Bush. It seems like he did MUCH MORE than LA's own elected officials.

Clinton had eight years to deal with this. After all, people have been saying NO was a disaster waiting to happen for decades. Where was your boy Clinton? Why weren't the levys built up under Clinton. After all, you say it is the Democrats that care about the little people (unborn excepted). He didn't give a damn about them, did he? Claiming to be the first "black President" makes for a nice soundbite, but doesn't mean a damn thing. Disgusting!

Wow, Ono. Even Molly Ivins cut the president some slack. :-)
I really wonder at times like these if people like John Kerry and Bobby Jindal and Ronnie Musgrove aren't torn between relief that it isn't them and a belief that they would have done a better job if they were Bush or Blanco or Barbour.

Now, now Ono. That's a wee bit harsh, isn't it?

I don't remember Rudy Giuliani waiting around for the National Guard to come in and rescue NYC after 9/11. So what's Mayor Nagin's excuse? Or Governor Blanco's? Both Democrats, by the way.

They're poor leaders. They couldn't handle the crisis so they sat on their hands and waited for somebody with a pair to take charge and get things done, i.e., Bush and the military.

Let's face it, the entities you despise and ridicule are the ones who got the job done. The facts speak for themselves.

Your rabid partisanship is showing.
