"You are the man!" 2 Samuel 12:7 or as the King James puts it, "Thou art the man."

The Ebonics translation of course is, "You da man!"

You see, it's all scriptural.

My Old Testament professor translated that to Hebrew for us (O Lord and Talmida, forgive the misplaced accents and everything else wrong with this transcription):

"Atah ha ish!"

Looks ok to me, Ono! Those are 3 words that I actually know.

Transcribing or transliterating Hebrew is a personal matter anyway. There are various different systems in English (and since I don't know any of them, I make my own up as I go along). And I got the shock of my life going to a Parisian Jewish website and seeing Hebrew transliterated into French!! Shimon (Simon) was all of a sudden Chimone. Accents everywhere!

But it occurs to me that if one can say "You da man" in Hebrew, I must certainly look up the word for "bomb".
